Though my courses at the university are now over, I still enjoy teaching private lessons—piano, theory, composition to students who are motivated and mature enough to TTC, and no one is too old. It’s always rewarding when former university students come around for a bit more coaching. Anyone is welcome to enquire.
My angle is you are more likely to become a fluent and confident performer when you cover a whole lot of not-too-hard music, rather than getting stuck on a few selections that are too difficult for rapid progress. This is not, needless to say a firm, 100% rule. Some bits of perfectionism and a few hard problems can also jump you ahead. I generally get my teaching direction from students’ interests and build on that to new interests.
